Before operating a high-temperature sintering furnace, it is essential to understand the correct procedures and precautions to minimize errors and ensure safe operation. Key points include:
- Monitor Temperatures – Always check the temperature of the furnace cover, body, bottom, and water-cooled electrodes. If any part becomes too hot to touch, stop heating and inspect the water circulation system.
- Check Vacuum System – If the vacuum cannot be achieved, inspect the diffusion pump oil for oxidation and ensure the mechanical pump is functioning properly. Replace the pump if it shows signs of aging.
- Protective Gas Filling – When introducing protective gas, monitor the vacuum pressure gauge carefully. Avoid exceeding positive pressure (generally around -50 Pa). Since gases expand when heated, if the pressure approaches positive values, open the mechanical pump and pre-vacuum valve to reduce gas volume.
- Handle Materials Carefully – When loading materials, avoid contact with graphite heating elements, especially those with grooves, as they become brittle after heating and can break easily.
- Maintain Cleanliness – Regularly clean the inside and outside of the furnace and maintain the vacuum valves.
- Inspect Water System – After starting the water pump, ensure all valves are open and check that there are no leaks in the water pipes. Address any issues promptly.
